Maria Dempster, whose fusion artwork comes from her own hybrid cultural distinctiveness, who has lived in Canada since the age of three was born in MeXiCo. Her focus of her artwork is a contemporaneous translation of the pre- Columbian HUichol (Mexican Indian) Tradition of “Yarn painting”, Labor-intensive sculptures which integrate both fabric and painting modes.
