How nice is too nice?

Random acts of kindness should have been something that was ingrained in human kind naturally and should have been acted upon normally. Today, we live in a world where kindness is questioned and sweet gestures are cross-examined; ulterior motives towards generosity are scanned and doubled checked before accepting a pure random act of kindness.

“What did I do to deserve this?” one asked. At first, she let the question slip not understanding why this question came up anyway, she hadn’t realized that we live in a world today where random acts of kindness is never being played.

“Yes, I do live on kindheartedness & thoughtfulness. That’s what I live on everyday. It’s my inspiration and that is why as much as I can, I practice it. Making someone smile is a mission that I choose to accomplish everyday but how nice is too nice?” she thought.

The smallest gesture, even a smile for that matter is an act of kindness, one shouldn’t let their problems, daily fears, or thoughts ruin their personalities. We shouldn’t let the bad attitudes of people ruin our character. These things start shaping our lives and before we know it “KABOOOOM” here we are, labeled the “nasty” of society.

If you hadn’t asked, I wouldn’t have thought; but I wont lie the question still remains there. Even I, as a participant to the “random act of kindness” gestures don’t understand the perception people have of being nice.

NO its not because I want something in return, or I’m being nice for a ‘cause’ that will end soon. It’s just who I am. It’s just what I do. You smile I smile. Ever heard of that? Sometimes there doesn’t have to be a reason for you to be nice, you could just call it the “I’m being nice day” everyday. No questions asked, not knowing why people deserve your love. Just the simple me, making the simple you, whom I don’t know very well smile.

It’s just that simple.

Till Next Year!

So Ramadan is over now and so is the tarweeh and qiyam el lail prayers, the family gatherings with lots of food, the preparations of Eid, and the bedazzled jalabiya mini fashion show that would happen at home!

During Ramadan my routine had changed… I would be awake the whole night and fall asleep after Fajer prayers… my days would be busy filled by reading Quran, praying, and spending time with my family. This year was different as I promised Allah that I would not do anything to distract myself from this holly month. This was a month I devoted my self to Allah as this was my “to-do-list” I made since last Ramadan. Today, I proudly check that to-do list and welcome Eid. !

Hello Eid!

For those of you around the world let me give you a small introduction to you about Eid!

It’s a glamours occasion where we gather as a family and go visiting to greet our extended friends and family. It’s an occasion, like Ramadan, where food is an essential and dressing up in new clean clothes is a must!

-x---x-

My eyes were weary, as I hadn’t slept well from the night before; I rubbed my eyes and smelt the strong smell of henna that was coming from my hand. It’s been 5-6 years if not more, that I apply henna for Eid but this year for some reason I was persistent.

“Baba, what time should I be ready tomorrow morning?”

“8 am sharp.” My eldest brother said sternly “and don’t be late as we need to come home for 9alat el ‘67r”

I made sure I wake up early the day before Eid so that I could sleep early, but still couldn’t catch enough sleep. I didn’t want to be late so I drove myself out of bed and went in for a shower. Swiftly applied my make up hoping i would get the 'look' i want! This year I was going for the smoky eyes 'look'… black kohl on top and inside my eyes and greenish black shadow in between for my final touches, I brushed my favorite Lancôme ‘Star Bronzer’ all over my face and volumized my lashes with my fav 2000 calorie Max Factor mascara.

My pink ‘Dream Dress' was hanging so beautifully, adorned with the finest French lace and picturesque pinks! I couldn’t wait to wear it… but before I slipped my dress on, I made sure that I amber scented it with dkhoon and perfume so it could smell as beautiful as this day!

I loosened my twisted curls then later while applying my lipstick, my mother comes into the room and signals me that its time to leave. I quickly put on my black suede pumps, pulled on my glittered with sequins abaya, wrapped my shaila loosely around my face and make an exist. Heading downstairs on my way towards the car, I greet my parents and siblings with smiles and warmth. Our family drives on Dubai’s pretty lanes heading to greet close family and friends happily welcoming eid! :)

Hope all of you had a lovely Eid!

Smiles!

Those Crazy Days

There is always a “Once Upon A Time…” in everyone’s life story and there’s always a someone we constantly miss!

Sometimes I go back and think how we enjoyed life’s little rendezvous of shopping and buying sparkly shoes!

We sat on that usual corner of ours in Starbucks and analyzed our latest buys.

Those days where diamonds to me as everything was always hip and happening, and nothing could break us down only a drop dead gorgeous piece! It was just so fantastic life was bliss, so glamoratic!

Things are not the same and will never be. Life’s always a phase and unfortunately that’s how its supposed to be.

We must accustom to change and be happy;

With whatever that comes along we may not like but may be good for thee.

I hold on to the memories and cherish them with a lot of conviviality its nice to live life with sparkles and glee!

What we were and what we used to do was sometimes crazy I look back and think… we really were a funny mystery!

On my last day I would like to

It was a world I was not familiar with; I opened my eyes to the annoying alarm clock that was ringing next to my ears!
I was nervous, 1001 things running through my mind, it was my first day I was wondering will I be able to perform every task they ask me to do!?
I shook my brain and told myself “you are a bright young lady and you should remain confident.” – (I kinda needed the boost)

It was a sunny morning and my best friend and I were ready to start a new chapter of our life, meet new people, over come some difficult tasks and make mistakes to learn from and gather memories that we would cherish forever… and so we did.

We did all that and more, we felt like we entered a family of 5 floors that welcomed us and treated us with modesty.

It was a change from the daily routine, from the same people we encounter on our day to day life, it was a change that allowed us to be more open to different ideas that left us with interesting perspectives, it was a change and a good one I must say. There is so much we learnt and so much we have yet to learn but the encouragement that we got left us inspired and confident and made us feel, yes we are capable of maybe, doing something that was only just a dream.

I would like to thank all of you whom took out time for us, and spoke to us, advised us, took care of us, encouraged us, inspired us, and made us feel that we are worth your while.

It’s an experience, a chapter in my life, a whole new world that I’m not sure if I’m ready to close.
“To us this was the beginning, not the end.”
Thank you all once again.
